On Thursday 9/12/2024 at approximately 2:04 p.m., the Lee County Sheriff's Office received a call requesting medical personnel at an oilfield site located off of FM 2440, outside of Giddings, Texas.

Lee County Emergency Medical Services were dispatched to the scene along with Deputies of the Lee County Sheriff's Office. Deputies arrived on scene and located a deceased male victim, who was later identified as "Jeffrey Keiffer" (W/M, 62 years of age, of Lexington, TX).

Investigators with the Lee County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Division arrived to begin processing the scene. Lee County Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Michael York was summoned to hold an inquest.

Investigators determine that Mr. Kieffer received fatal injuries as a result of colliding with a piece of heavy equipment. The exact cause and manner of death remains under investigation. An autopsy was ordered to be performed by the Travis County Medical Examiner's Office in Austin, Texas.
