WORKER INJURED IN FATA L FALL AT TEJAS CAMP & RETREAT

Giddings, Texas - On Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at approximately 9:36 a.m., the Lee County Sheriff's Office Dispatch Center received an emergent call regarding a workplace accident at Tejas Camp & Retreat, located at 1038 Private Road 2191 in Giddings.

 

The caller reported that a worker had fallen from a roof and was unresponsive. Sheriff Garrett Durrenberger and Deputies from the Lee County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene along with Lee County EMS, and Constables AJ Gonzales and Billy Stephens.

 

Upon investigation, it was determined that Victor Antonio Barrios Castillo, a 33-year-old construction worker, had fallen from the roof after disabling his safety harness to retrieve fasteners. Tragically, Mr. Castillo sustained fatal injuries as a result of the fall. Lee County Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Michael York responded to the scene to hold an inquest.

 

The Lee County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Division is leading the investigation into this incident to ensure all circumstances are thoroughly reviewed.

 

Mr. Castillo was a resident of Venezuela and had family times in El Paso, Texas. The Sheriff's Office has been in contact with his family to provide support during this difficult time. The Lee County Sheriff's Office extends its deepest condolences to Mr. Castillo's family and loved ones.
