VTR68-A INSPECTIONS
Effective January 2025 - The Lee County Sheriff's Office is responsible for the VTR68-A Inspections for residents of Lee County. In previous years, this program was handled by the Sheriffs' Combined Auto Theft Task Force in Travis County.
This new program will be more convenient for our citizens in Lee and Fayette Counties; through an agreement between Sheriff Garrett Durrenberger and Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek.
- Inspection Location: All inspections will be conducted at the Lee County Law Enforcement Center, located at 2122 FM 448 in Giddings, Texas.
- Arrangements: It is your responsibility to make arrangements to have your vehicle or trailer brought to the designated location for inspection. The cost of each inspection $20 and must be paid with a money order, payable to "Lee County", at the time of inspection.
- Contact: To make an appointment, call or e-mail Sergeant Keith Montgomery (979)350-8156 / keithm@co.lee.tx.us
****In the event of inclement weather, or if the investigator is called away for other assignments; any previously scheduled appointment/s for inspection will be cancelled. You are responsible for rescheduling your appointment. You may call (979)350-8156 to verify your appointment.
- Requirements: A certified investigator is the only person who can conduct a 68-A inspection. You are required to bring your photo identification, proof of Lee/Fayette County residency, and the title of the vehicle to be inspected. If you have a homemade trailer or vehicle without a title, you are required to present written proof of manufacture, bill of sale, and any other documentation you may have to substantiate manufacture or ownership. If your vehicle was a gift or inheritance, you are required to present any related documentation.
All vehicles and trailers are subject to seizure as defined by the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure Chapter 47 if the vehicle/trailer manufacturer's VIN has been removed, obliterated, or altered.
If you need a 68-A inspection to have your vehicle titled in a state other than Texas, you may contact the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles at (512)465-3000.
