Skunk Tests Positive in Lee County

On 9/18/2023, Deputies of the Lee County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a child who had been bitten by a skunk. The child was transported by Lee County Emergency Medical Services for treatment. The child is doing well and has resumed normal activities. The animal was put down on scene and transported for rabies testing.
On 9/21/2023, the Sheriff's Office was advised that the skunk tested positive for rabies. This information has been shared with our local public health officials. Please use caution when outdoors and warn your children of the dangers involved with potentially rabid animals.
